WIP but I’m kind of tired of working on it. I just had a giraffe craving. I’m not sure why I decided to mess up the bottom part of the necks like that.

For one of my classes we had to create an illustration/integrate it with an article in a simple 2-page spread, something media or general-interest related, musicians/bands was the main suggestion so naturally: Punch Brothers.  I feel like a giant dweeb for drawing this but I’m pleading ‘It’s for school’.

Inspired by Clara because for whatever reason that song sounds to me like floating around in a boat.  The rabbit figurehead is because I wanted it to look fancier and also because it seems to be a reoccurring motif? so I figure it’s somehow significant or maybe not.  I didn’t fully intend for it to get so Disney-movie-reject in terms of style but old habits die hard.

And then I put a whale on there because why the heck not.

New measure of success for portraits: does your point and shoot camera automatically detect it as a face.  Because that just happened and it freaked me out.  Now that I’m looking at it on the computer screen I can see approx. 600 things wrong with it but never mind, I really need to get two more of these done tonight.

Natural Disaster

In lieu of more pressing responsibilities, tonight I watched How To Train Your Dragon with the directors’ commentary turned on and drew these.

Lazy doodles I do while waiting for my sister to wake up.

My first linocut!  It looks pretty crappy because when it comes down to it, I had almost none of the right tools. (Didn’t have fine enough cutting tools, just some dull wood gouges.  Didn’t have a brayer, just paintbrushes.  Didn’t have inks, just acrylic paint.  Didn’t have nice paper, just some sketchbooks.)  Excuses.

But this was fun and I’ll definitely be doing more of these in the future!  But I’ll be ordering supplies from Dick Blick because everything was at least three times more expensive at the local art supply shop (and they didn’t have much selection in linoleum sheets).  Aaaand I probably need to work bigger if I actually want stuff this intricate to look nice (this is only 4 x 6 inches).
